The Week Ahead in Coral Gables: First November Election & Giralda Live

Election Day, Gables Gallery Night & Giralda Live: your guide to the week of Nov. 2-8 around office space in Coral Gables.

The clocks fell back this morning, the Halloween decorations are coming down along Miracle Mile, and Coral Gables is heading into one of its most consequential weeks of the year. Between a historic city election on Tuesday and a packed First Friday downtown, the first week of November is a good one to be working from an office in the heart of the Gables. Here's what's ahead for the week of November 2–8.

Tuesday: Coral Gables Votes in Its First-Ever November Election

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3 — and this one is a milestone. After a voter-approved charter amendment moved city elections from April to November to align with the countywide calendar, this is the first November municipal election in Coral Gables history, according to reporting from the Coral Gables Gazette.

Three races are on the ballot, per the City Clerk's office. Mayor Vince Lago is seeking a fourth consecutive term against challengers Jackson "Rip" Holmes and Laureano Cancio. In Group IV, incumbent Commissioner Melissa Castro faces Nestor Menendez. And Group V is an open seat — Commissioner Ariel Fernandez chose not to seek reelection — with Gonzalo Sanabria and Dominique "Nikki" Whiting competing to fill it. If no candidate clears the threshold in a race, a runoff is scheduled for December 1.

Polls across Florida are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and precinct lookups and sample ballots are available through the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections. Whoever wins will shape decisions that matter to every business renting office space in Coral Gables — from development and parking policy to how downtown streets and plazas get programmed. We covered the campaign's final stretch in our October 26 news roundup if you need a refresher before you vote.

Friday Night: Gallery Night Meets Giralda Live

Friday, November 6 is a downtown double-header. Gables Gallery Night returns from 6 to 10 p.m., with participating galleries and the Coral Gables Museum opening their doors on the first Friday of the month through December.

A block away, Giralda Live takes over Giralda Plaza from 7 to 11 p.m. The city's First Friday street event — produced with partner Diageo — turns the plaza into a pedestrian night market with dining, local artists, and vendors, with live music from 8 to 10 p.m. This month's headliner, per the city's event listing, is Pamir y La Pachanguísima, a Latin salsa, tropical, and jazz ensemble. If your team needs a built-in happy hour plan this week, this is it — the kind of after-work amenity that makes an office rental in Coral Gables an easier sell to employees than a generic suburban park.

On Display All Week: Capture Coral Gables

If you have visitors in town or a gap between meetings, the Capture Coral Gables 2026 photography exhibition is up at the Coral Gables Museum at 285 Aragon Avenue — open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. It's a five-minute walk from most downtown Gables office buildings.

Mark the Calendar: A First-Ever Veterans Day Salute on Giralda

Looking one week further out: on Wednesday, November 11, the city hosts its first Coral Gables Salute to Veterans on Giralda Plaza, with a 9 a.m. ceremony featuring a presentation of colors, the national anthem, and recognition of veterans from each branch of the armed forces. Sponsored by Commissioner Richard Lara, the event is intended to become an annual tradition — fitting for a year that marks the nation's 250th anniversary. If your office is downtown, expect a festive (and busier) plaza that morning; our parking and getting around guide covers the garages worth knowing.

Why Weeks Like This Matter for Your Business

Weeks like this one are the quiet argument for basing your company in the Gables rather than chasing the broader Miami office market. Downtown Coral Gables packs civic life, culture, and more than a hundred restaurants into a few walkable blocks — the kind of environment where client lunches, team outings, and after-work events plan themselves. In a tight Miami office market, that location advantage is doing real work for tenant recruiting and retention.
