Drink-or-Treat, a Haunted Pub & More: October on Miracle Mile
Halloween hits Miracle Mile: the Drink-or-Treat crawl, JohnMartin's haunted pub & dining news near your office space in Coral Gables.
If you work out of an office in downtown Coral Gables, the second half of October is when the neighborhood earns its keep. Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, the city has built a full bar-and-restaurant crawl around it, and one of Miracle Mile's oldest pubs has gone fully haunted for the month. Here's what's happening within a few blocks of your desk — plus one big dining announcement worth marking on the calendar.
Drink-or-Treat Takes Over Downtown on Halloween Night
The City of Coral Gables is running Drink-or-Treat, a self-led Halloween crawl through downtown's bars and restaurants, on Saturday, October 31 from 6 to 10 p.m. According to the city's event page, there are no tickets — you simply show up in costume, grab a punch map card at your first stop, and collect a punch with each drink purchase. Hit three locations and you earn a limited-edition souvenir glass, first-come, first-served at select spots on the map.
The participating list is long — 28 locations at last count — and reads like a tour of the neighborhood's best. On Miracle Mile alone you'll find Salumeria 104, Sushi Sake, La Birra Bar, Fuku, Benihana, and JohnMartin's. Over on Giralda Plaza, the pedestrian-only block behind the Mile, the lineup includes Aromas del Peru, Coyo Taco, Eating House, Costazul, and Cebada Rooftop. Downtown anchors like Fogo de Chão, Morton's, Bouchon Bistro, and Mister O1 round it out. The city notes more locations and specials may still be announced.
For teams based in executive suites Coral Gables-side, this is an easy, zero-planning happy hour: it starts at 6 p.m. on a Saturday, but plenty of offices are treating the Friday before as the warm-up.
JohnMartin's Goes Full Haunted Pub (All Month)
You don't have to wait until the 31st. JohnMartin's, the Irish pub at 253 Miracle Mile, has brought back its Halloween bar takeover for the whole month of October. As South Florida Insider reported this week, the pub is draped in cobwebs and skeletons and pouring nine Halloween-themed cocktails — including a Frozen Pumpkin Spiked Latte, a Bruised Apple Shot, and a Witches Melon Cauldron — served in suitably theatrical glassware.
It's become one of the more reliable after-work moves in the Gables this time of year: close enough to walk from any office rental Coral Gables has downtown, and festive enough to work for a client drink or a team outing without anyone having to organize a thing.
Coming Soon: Call Your Mother Bagels on the Mile
The dining pipeline on the Mile keeps filling in. According to MiamiCurated's October eating news, Call Your Mother — the Washington, D.C.-born "Jew-ish" bagel shop and deli — is set to open its first South Florida location in December at 317 Miracle Mile, in the former Bodega Taqueria space. Expect malt-boiled bagels and stacked sandwiches like the "Jetski." For anyone whose morning routine involves coffee-and-something on the walk to the office, this one matters.
It's part of a bigger pattern we've been tracking all fall: between the new food hall at The Plaza (covered here) and a steady stream of openings, the blocks around Miracle Mile keep getting better as a place to spend a workday.
Mark Your Calendar: Giralda Live Returns November 6
One more for the planner: Giralda Live, the first-Friday night series on Giralda Plaza, has its next edition on Friday, November 6 from 7 to 11 p.m., with live music from 8 to 10 — the city's event page lists Latin ensemble Pamir y La Pachanguísima. The plaza's restaurants stay open throughout, making it a natural cap to the workweek. If you're entertaining clients, our guide to hosting clients in Coral Gables covers the rest of the logistics.
