Zuccaly Opens at The Plaza: A Big Week for Coral Gables Dining

Zuccaly's Italian food hall soft-opens at The Plaza Coral Gables — plus Miracle Mile openings, ¡Salud! Miami, and Halloween events near your office.

If you work in office space in Coral Gables, your lunch options just got dramatically better. This week brought the biggest dining debut of the fall — an 8,000-square-foot Italian food hall at The Plaza — plus fresh news up and down Miracle Mile and a packed October events calendar. Here's what's new around the Gables as of this Friday.

Zuccaly, Coral Gables' First Italian Food Hall, Is Open

The headline of the week: Zuccaly soft-opened Thursday, October 8 at The Plaza Coral Gables (111 Palermo Ave., Suite 112). According to Miami New Times, the roughly 8,000-square-foot hall comes from Da Silva Hospitality Group — the team behind longtime Gables favorite Zucca and the revived Hereford Grill — and trades Zucca's fine-dining format for a casual, piazza-style setup.

Inside you'll find stations for fresh pasta and risotto; LaBiga, serving Roman-style pizza made with a six-day dough process; an open-flame grill turning out steaks and seafood; Il Giardino for salads and antipasti; a dolci-and-gelato counter; a grab-and-go sandwich station; and the PortaVia Gastro Market stocked with Italian pantry goods and prepared dishes. A full bar pours Italian wines, Negronis, and spritzes, with weekday aperitivo specials planned. Community Newspapers reported earlier this year that the 200-seat indoor/outdoor venue is expected to create about 120 local jobs.

One note for early visitors: soft-opening hours are limited for now — roughly 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 1 to 8 p.m. on weekends — so check before you walk over. For teams with executive suites Coral Gables-side near Ponce de Leon Boulevard, this is an easy new option for client lunches and Friday team outings alike.

What's Cooking on Miracle Mile

Miracle Mile keeps adding reasons to stay in the neighborhood after work. Stand, the 24-seat daytime café at 98 Miracle Mile from Michelin-starred Shingo chef Shingo Akikuni, has been serving milk bread sandwiches, shio pan, onigiri, and matcha since June — and per Miami New Times, it's slated to transform into a nighttime izakaya later this year.

Looking further ahead, MiamiCurated reports that Call Your Mother, the Washington, D.C.-born bagel shop and deli we flagged last week, is targeting a December opening at 317 Miracle Mile. And Canadian chain Moxies has filed plans with the city to replace the one-story retail building at 87 Coral Way with a two-story restaurant featuring indoor and outdoor seating, according to development filings reported by Hoodline — no opening date yet, but it signals continued restaurant investment on the Mile.

¡Salud! Miami Runs Through October 31

Miami's month-long cocktail celebration, ¡Salud! Miami, continues through October 31, with more than 75 bars, restaurants, and hotels across the county offering discounted cocktails and special menus. Several Coral Gables spots are participating, which makes October a low-stakes month to try that happy hour spot you've been walking past on Giralda Plaza.

Halloween in the Gables: Mark Your Calendar

The City of Coral Gables has announced its Halloween season lineup, running October 17–31. Highlights for the downtown office crowd: the Pumpkin Patch at Ponce Circle Park kicks things off Saturday, October 17 (2–6 p.m.) with a harvest market, live music, and food. On Saturday, October 31, Miracle Mile hosts Trick-or-Treat on the Mile from 3 to 6 p.m., followed by Drink-or-Treat at 6 p.m. — a self-guided, 21-and-up happy hour crawl with Halloween drink specials at participating spots. Ponce Circle Park also hosts a Day of the Dead celebration presented by the Consulate of Mexico from 4 to 9 p.m. that evening, and the Coral Gables Trolley runs 10 a.m.–10 p.m. on Halloween to get you around.
